Laurens Kroon was born in Holland in 1940.He came to Canada in 1957. He has led a double life as a teacher and an artist.
He gets his inspiration from many people and sources such as his rich Dutch heritage.
He is also indebted to and influenced by Henry David Thoreau. In particular “Walden “Life in the woods” as well as “Civil Disobedience (Witness)”

The artist describes his “artistic” experience as follows: He gets his inspiration from many people and sources. Such as his rich Dutch heritage. Many Dutch painters chose nature and portraits as their subject matter.
The artist is also indebted to and influenced by Henry David Thoreau. In particular “Walden “Life in the woods” as well as “Civil Disobedience (Witness)”
Following in their footsteps fills him with a great sense of humility and determination.
To bear “witness “is an important part of any artist’s life. They should use their talents and skills to draw attention to what really matters and goes on in the world around them. They should stay away from the nonsense “Entertainment-Bread and Circus “, if at all possible.
L’exposition « De Chartre à Riopelle – Le vitrail à travers la peinture » propose une série de peintures inspirées tout autant de son propre travail d’artiste du vitrail moderne, que des grands maîtres du vitrail, tel que Chartres, que des artistes peintre plus contemporains, tel Riopelle.
Sa longue expérience d’enseignement et de praticien artistique combinant deux formes d’art, en apparence fort diverses, parvient à marier les formes et les couleurs de façon remarquable et unique, nous inspirant à la contemplation.
Depuis les années soixante l’artiste a toujours mené une double vie artistique : la peinture aussi bien que le vitrail, particulièrement le vitrail moderne.
Cette exposition est le reflet d’un long cheminement qui amène l’artiste à combiner deux formes d’art fort diverses en apparence pour en marier les formes et les couleurs.
